Not long ago I had both girls in a UPS store for a dreadfully long time. Think 45 minutes. Now wrangling two little ones in any store can be difficult, but without the shopping cart, constant motion, or my attention, it was a very long time.
And the girls did fine. They might have practiced their forward rolls, pulled a few greeting cards off the shelf, and begged for some candy, but I totally blame the guy behind the counter. He was incredibly overwhelmed.
Needless to say, the other customers pretended to enjoy the girls. Except, perhaps, the lady who was working on a project the Ella came thisclose to stepping on. She didn't pretend.
Anyways, towards the end of our adventure a kind woman told me, "The days are long but the years are short." It resonated within my body. Sometimes it feels likes 45 minutes can be an entire lifetime while the past four years of my life have flown by in a jiffy.
As the girls are approaching their birthdays in May, they are quickly transforming. Ella is leaving toddler hood behind and galloping towards bigger kid status. And it is clear; Abby is no longer a baby.
Ella has lost her chub and her appetite. She can exude confidence, has her own gaggle of besties, and insists on doing her own hair and choosing her own clothes.
And Abby is right behind her.
Wow. I looooove that quote. It is soooo true. My favorite pass time is watching old videos of Dylan and Julia . These last four years have FLOWN by but sometimes the hour before naptime can last an eternity. Thank you for that Becks!
ReplyDeleteReally very sweet, and very very true post. My kiddo is still just two - but I can't believe how amazingly fast the time has gone (even on those very long, very hard days!) You gave me goosebumps!
