Abby's Snow Fun

Due to our high elevation we have received a sprinkling of snow here and there.  Of course the girls have loved every minute of the white fluff.  We all have, but I am craving some accumulation. I'd love to take the girls sledding or spend a few hours in the snow just to retreat inside and drink hot chocolate.  Our snow usually lasts a few hours and never amounts to much.

Not too long ago Abby and I were able to enjoy a walk around the block while Ella was in school.  Abby LOVED it and would have kept going if she had her way.  She was very observant and paid attention to all the details.  She watched her feet make footprints, pointed to it, and watched it melt.

I was thrilled we were actually able to put this fleece suit to use because i just adore it.  Below is a picture of Ella wearing it in 2010.  Do they look alike or what?!  Sisters for sure!

Let It Snow!

Yesterday we were teased with a few snowflakes.  Mother Nature flirted with the idea and Abby was intrigued.  Truly it would snow for a moment and then rain for a moment, snow quickly, and then rain.

Last night's forecast called for snow.  However, I have learned that snow in Oregon rarely happens and when it does, although never much, it can still shut down the city.  Luckily, we live at a high elevation and received a touch more than a dusting, just enough to build a snowman.    So, by 6:45 we were outside whooping it up while still wearing our pajamas.  For a moment I hesitated, thinking I'd rather have my morning coffee and wake up slowly.  But after the tragedy in Newtown, I thought better;  6:45 was the perfect time to play in the snow!

Our littlest snowman.  This was before we added almonds for eyes and before Ella ate the carrot.

Here you can see Ella's Sesame Street pajamas peeking through.

I look forward to many more early mornings playing in the snow!

Snow!!!

Coming from the east coast I remember tons and tons of snow.  Granted, my memory sucks, but I firmly remember days off of school, enough snow to warrant snowmen, snow angels, and good ol' fashioned fun followed by hot chocolate with fluff.

Things are just a little bit different here.
Occasionally we are lucky to get a flurry here and there and we live at roughly 1,000 feet while the rest of the city is in the valley.

It snowed earlier this month, as you can see.  We had snow and it warranted a 2-hour delay for Ella and Abby's school.  Of course, my school in the valley had nada.  Then again, there was not snow to be seen on campus.  It sucked.  Obviously I wanted to be making memories with my little one, playing in the snow, and living life.  Instead daddy snapped these precious photos for me.

And although I am bitter about not having a snow day or delay, I am glad it snowed.  At least now I can justify the Columbia snowsuit and the Nike snow boots.  E was prepared with her $60 worth of snow gear, even if she just played outside for 15 minutes...
